Delhi on high alert after blast near high court

Delhi Police have sounded a high alert across the capital after a low intensity blast occurred in the parking lot of the Delhi high court on Wednesday (25-May-2011) afternoon.

There was a low intensity blast outside the Delhi High Court complex on Wednesday as a crude bomb exploded, police said. The incident took place at gate number 7 of the high court.

There were no reports about casualties or damage.

The explosion reportedly took place near the bonnet of a car - a silver Ford - parked outside the court. It triggered panic on the court compound.

The car caught fire following the explosion. Senior officials of Delhi Police, along with the special cell personnel, anti-terror unit and bomb detection and disposal unit rushed to the spot. Four fire tenders were pressed into service to control the fire.

Delhi Police's special commissioner (law and order) Dharmendra Kumar confirmed that the blast was caused by a low-intensity explosive.
