Letting quarterback Vince Young go was a move the Tennessee Titans intended to make all the way back in February. They just made it official on the first day they were allowed to do so. According to an ESPN report, Young was released Thursday.
Young had many ups and downs during his time in Tennessee after being drafted third overall in 2006. At his best, he was a dynamic, mobile quarterback who helped the team compile a 30-17 record as a starter. But attitude issues and an injury led to a falling out with former coach Jeff Fisher. Even with Fisher leaving and Mike Munchak stepping in, it didn't change Young's status with the team.
The move completes the Titans' overhaul at quarterback. They used a first-round pick on former Washington star Jake Locker in April, and Kerry Collins announced his retirement three weeks ago. On Wednesday, the team agreed to a three-year deal with former Seahawks starter Mass Hasselbeck, who will take over as the starter and be a mentor to Locker, the future starter.
