Chitra (Genelia) is a school teacher who comes to Araku to teach school students. Krishna (arun) is an aspiring director who comes along with his team to make a movie at the same place. Soon, their paths meet and Krishna falls for her. However, there is a flashback for Chitra that is revealed later and to add to it, Chitra says she has witnessed a murder as well. Was it really true or a hallucination? What is the real ‘Katha’? All this forms the essence.

Artists Performance:
The bubbly beauty Genelia has given her best efforts to do justice to the film but then her role was not given that depth and portrayed correctly. However, her chirpy looks and cute smiles make up for the score. Telugu Movie Reviews

Arun Adit has shown confidence in front of the screen but then he is raw. There are a few things he has to work on like his expressions, posture, body language etc if he is looking at making a career in film industry.
Prakashraj has given another decent performance, though he plays a crucial role and a brief one, he made his presence felt whenever required. No complaints on that one.

The entire film revolves pretty much around Genelia so it must be said that the stand out act has been that of Raghu Babu who spreads good laughter with his witty dialogues and expressions. Shafi was not used to the fullest, Tulasi was standard and so was Jayalalitha, Ravikiran Babu was alright, C M Kalyan was usual, they were regular and contributed as required.

Final Analysis:

The film came out with an interesting concept but then it was caught between two genres – romance and thriller. That led to a lot of confusion and it must be said that there is a major flaw in the direction. The storyline was appealing but the narrative was very weak, presentation was good in many places. Dialogues were mild, the script lacked the spine, screenplay was erratic. Another flaw in the film is the background score which was overenthusiastic in every scene. To create an impact in a thriller, silence at the right time works best and themusic director is busy giving a sentimental tune which is a major turn off. Editing was not crisp. Songs were not good either barring one which was a bit melodious. Cinematography was professional and the locations were good in few scenes.

The film runs on a very slow pace and given the lack of depth in the plot, it is quite boring. While the first half revolves around the lighter elements, the second half tries to get serious and there are one or two scenes where the audience interest is engaged. But soon, it loses its grip and gets back to a monotonous tune. The lack of comedy is another drawback and despite the presence of highly talented stars like Prakashraj, Genelia, Shafi, the director could not pull a good one. There is nothing for the mass audience, family audience might come for Genelia but lose interest in no time, and youth don’t have much to talk about it either. The film is mostly ending up as a dud at the box office.

Ganesh expressed his wish to give something to my fans and thought it should be an entertaining movie with a good script, entertaining songs and some excellent camera work. Ganesh had initially never thought of producing until director Pritam Gubbi, approached him with a story and asked for his opinion on it. After consulting his wife Shilpa, Ganesh then decided to produce the movie under a home banner. Maleyali Jotheyali is a family entertainer with 70% of the shooting done in the rain. In fact Ganesh would sing the opening song of the movie as he fields his singing talent which he has harnessed during his orchestra days.

Maleyali Jotheyali: Like a light drizzle that soaks up your senses before you can know, this beautiful track from Harikrishna unravels its melody with an unhurried leisure. Vaani Harikrishna’s voice is mischievous and melodious at the same time. The repeat value of this song is such that you don’t mind listening to the same tune once again in Sonu Nigam’s silky voice.

Enu Helabeku: Although this song is tuneful, there are a couple of complaints that we have about this track. First, the CD cover shows utter disrespect to the female singer of the song as it does not mention her name on the cover. Of course sir, Sonu Nigam’s name is enough to lure the listeners; but show some respect to the female singers too! Our second complaint is that the track again looks ‘inspired’ from one more Hindi track!
Yaare Ninna Mummy: Harikrishna’s favorite pupil for peppy songs, Tippu, makes a noisy entry in this album with Priya Himesh, who gives a run for Tippu’s money in being bubbly and vivacious. Although this track seems to be a bit of a letdown, you may still like it when you see it.

AVM – Vikraman combination will conjure visions of a great family entertainer but Priyamana Thozhi is highly melodramatic and over-the-top movie with no logic. It is a candyfloss sob story of friendship between a boy and girl, which degenerates into mush and melodrama.

Vikraman has made a mess as he has ventured into an unknown territory of exploring friendship between two childhood friends, which he should have left the Karan Johar’s to examine. Added to this there is hardly any originality as every scene, dialogues, background score, jokes, climax and even music are all rehashed from various films including Vikraman’s earlier works.watch the movie trailer

If you are still dying to know about this friendship tale, please leave your brains behind as the story goes like this- Ashok (Madhavan) is a happy-go-lucky guy, who is an aspiring cricketer dreaming of playing for India! His best friend from childhood Julie (Sridevi), is his biggest supporter. Ashok and Julie share a very special bond and they share all secrets under the sun. But nobody at Ashok’s palatial house thinks much of him including his elder brother (Livingston) and family. Ashok starts a small video shop with his friends (Ramesh Kanna and Kumaresan) with the financial help of Julie. Soon Julie’s father dies and Ashok brings her to his house, which his family does not approve initially, but Julie wins them all over. They ask Ashok to marry Julie but both of them claim that they are best friends and not lovers!

Now Ashok meets a rich girl Nandhini (Jyothika) and it is love at first sight. They get married and now three of them live under the same roof! Meanwhile Ashok’s bat speaks for itself in Ranji Trophy matches where he scores century after century for Tamilnadu and is on the verge of being selected for the Indian team!! But his archrival and Julie’s lover Michael (Vineeth) comes into reckoning as his father makes a demand that Ashok should back out of the Indian team and give his place to his son (BCCI selectors, are you listening?). For the sake of Julie, our master-blaster (Krish Srikanth appears for 30 seconds as the coach) not only agrees but also packs his kit and leaves for Mumbai! In an utterly hackneyed and clumsy climax at the railway station the lead pair go through predictable motions as misunderstandings are sorted out and Ashok plays for the country and hits the wining six!!!!
Vikraman has stretched a story beyond credibility as he employs all the cinematic clichés seen in 60’s and 70’s tearjerkers and has subjected his audience to as much torture as possible. Of course Madhavan has flashes of brilliance- but is terribly let down by the script. Jyothika’s role has not been etched out as she looks helpless most of the time and is there for three songs shot in exotic foreign locales. If there is something nice about Priyamana Thozhi, it is Sridevi as Julie who looks like a dream, with her controlled and understated performance and steals the show.
