Vintage Tapestry Fashions
When you say or hear the word 'tapestry', I'm sure a wall hanging of sorts comes to mind but tapestry fabric has been worn as clothing as far back as the middle ages in the era of castles and chivalry. Tapestry in layman's terms is an intricate loom woven textile art that has been around for centuries, even dating back as far as the 3rd century BC as Greek tapestries have been discovered and

Designer Dish on Salvatore Ferragamo
Although he's been gone for over a half a century, Italian designer Salvatore Ferragamo will always be known for his outrageous shoe designs, as pictured here with this pair of 1938, stacked, multi color platform sandals that were actually about forty years ahead of their time being that they could have easily be mistaken for styles we've seen worn circa 1970.At the height of his career, his shoe

MOD Monday
Go-go boots first became popular in the 60's given the name that was derived from the 1962 slang term "go", meaning something that was "all the rage" and that was followed by the term "go-go dancer" in 1965. Back then, a go go dancer wasn't necessarily a stripper as many well established night clubs featured mod mama's in retro frocks and go-go boots dancing in cages. Initially boots were only

Spotlight Saturday... Royal Wedding Re-Cap
It's Spotlight Saturday once again and since the hoopla has yet to die down, we're bringing to you today a 'Retro Threadz Royal Wedding Re-Cap'. First off, the British tabloids were on the money as they leaked an early word that Kate Middleton's dress was designed by Sarah Burton for the late Alexander McQueen's fashion house. The dress was modest as to be expected but exquisitely beautiful

Fashion In Film Friday!
It's that time of the week again here at Retro Threadz where we discuss a film that inspired the world of fashion and this weeks movie is..."Valley Girl" circa 1983 starring Deborah Foreman and Nicolas Cage who at the time the movie was made had not yet made his mark in Hollywood as a reputable actor. The term Valley Girl was a stereotype given to a group of ditzy, materialistic, self-centered

It's MOD Monday Baby!
It's MOD Monday here again at Retro Threadz and this week we're discussing the origin of the 'baby doll dress' since it was a fashion staple of the 60's. The baby doll style started out as a sometimes sleeveless, comfortable, usually nylon fabric, short, loose fitting night gown that shortly thereafter migrated into a dress. The name given for the garment style 'baby doll' was popularized by the

Fashion In Film Friday
In addition to our Mod Mondays, we're going to be doing Fashion In Film Friday's here at Retro Threadz. Each week we'll be picking one movie that inspired the world of fashion. Fashions of every era have always been motivated by movie costumes since way before there was even color or sound in films. For example the German stage and silent film actress Marlene Dietrich was a fashion icon of the

MOD Monday!
We've decided here at Retro Threadz that every Monday we're going to be doing a flashback of popular vintage fashions or fashion models from the era of the 60's because seriously...we 'love love love' the fab & funky mod styles of that era so with that being said, when it comes to mod, "what goes around comes back around" as this colorful, versatile style isn't going anywhere soon!Mod fashions

Hats Off To Spring!
Women have always been in love with hats as a fashion accessory. In the 1920's the cloche hat was one of the first modern styles of the 20th century. Cloche is the french word for 'bell' as these caps were form fitting to the head in that shape. These hats were considered 'sexy & mysterious' because the hat sat right above the wearers eyes...In the 1930's there was a trend in the U.S. for

The Bizarre & Beautiful of Paris Fashion Week 2011
Highlights of the recent Paris Fashion Week 2011 hosted the 'bizarre & beautiful' and these three designers in particular set the runway on fire in my opinion with their unique yet exquisite collections.#1. Mugler's muse Lady GaGa stole the show taking to the gig like she'd been doing it all of her life grinding down the catwalk as her new single "Government Hooker", played as the soundtrack.
