David, wearing a black cap and a white shirt, was accompanied by his mother Esther Lakshmi and lawyer P. Arumuga Rajan. After completing the formalities, David was lodged in the prison at about 5.30 p.m.

It's learned from the lawyer that after coming to know that the Supreme Court had set aside the Madras High Court verdict acquitting him and restored the Cuddalore Sessions' Court's (trial court) judgment of awarding double life sentences, David expressed his readiness to surrender.

Co-workers shocked

John David was working as a Manager at an IT company in Chennai.

"It turns out that John David was working as process manager in a leading BPO company's unit in Velachery, Chennai. But the day the SC order came, he did not turn up for work," said town inspector S Karthikeyan, member of a team formed to trace David.

The inspector said John David had adopted another surname, Marimuthu, which is his father's second name, and might have produced fake documents to get the job. His co-workers said they were shocked that the brightly dressed and intelligent John is John David the murderer.
