Venue: Hans-Martin Schlayerhalle, Stuttgart, Germany
2 CD Audio
Bootleg: Over the Europe
Catalog: Metal Crash: MECD 2084/2085
Very Good Audience

Audio Rating (DRE): 9

Comments:
"Excellent show! How do you sleep at night knowing you don't own this one?" Brent's Bootlegs (DRE)

"What a great show. This is an excellent audience recording. Everything sounds nice and clear. The audience noise is almost non existent. There is someone who claps along with the beginning of a few songs but it quickly stops. A few highlights of the show, the little extra jam at the end of Bravado and Alex's improv vocals during Closer To The Heart. The only negative thing about the recording is that the bass is low. I would actually recommend this show over Mirrors. I think the band as a whole gives a much better performance than the Oakland show. Overall, a must have for the Bones era." Bill Girton (DRE)

Comments:
"Taken directly from the dat master clone soundboard source. Not only is this the best sounding soundboard so far from the RtB tour, in my opinion this is also their best performance of the tour. Performances of "The Trees", "Vital Signs" and "The Analog Kid" make these 2nd leg shows the best of the tour. Can't go wrong with this show. The versions of Vital Signs during the last days of the RtB tour are incredible. Alex's guitar work in the song is the best he's ever done. The song has new life, power, and intricacy that was not always present in previous performances.?There is one drawback to the show, it is missing the encore. If you are familiar with dat tapes, it shouldn't be to hard to figure out why the encore is missing. A standard dat is only 120min in high quality mode. Starting with tSoR, there are digi-noise problems. If you want the encore, I would suggest checking out "Charlotte Fever - Platinum Edition" which is an exceptional audience dat of this very show. I'm well known for not liking shows from the 1st leg of the RtB tour, and one listen to this should make it very clear why I feel that way. Once again thanks to Rubicon and others for helping to acquire the show. As with all Digital Reproductions recordings, it's only available via free trade and never for sale. Just visit the trading links section to find people that will gladly trade this recording for free"
.  (The Digital Dan)

"Mirrors" doesnt hold a candle to this recording. If you're looking for an extremely wide soundstage, and an amazing "upfront" sound, this is the recording for you".Conductor (Audio - 10)

"This is one of my first Rush boot. One of their greatest tour & excellent sound!!Must for every fan!! " Cenk Turanli (Audio - 10)

"i must have been living in a cave for i don't know how long -- why am i just recently getting turned on to THIS? Mirrors is a really great sound but when i slapped on the Sennheisers and cranked this one up i almost fell out of my seat... the mini-moog/temple blocks section of The Trees tickled my brain -- i could almost taste outer space! the dynamic range of this recording trumps anything else i've heard to date... since this is later in the tour, Subdivisions and The Pass are replaced by Vital Signs and Analog Kid -- a significant upgrade, IMO. this has quickly joined The Hartford '90 as my favorite Rush SBD" C-Blocker (Audio - 10)

Production Notes:
"As a show that was already released I wasn't sure. I wanted to remaster this, but when I heard the Nuts & Bolts version I thought it lacked something, maybe a little balls. I looked at it in Sound Forge and it was lacking in the levels department. So I said screw it, this one is for me and if someone else wants it fine. Being that it was a clone of the master DAT I was able to split the cd where I prefer to, after Limelight making both cd's almost the same length.? I then proceeded to ever so slightly remaster it to the sound I like, which I honestly think was just the right touch. I think this version sounds a bit purer and truer than N&B's which to me sounds a tad flat. Like I said this is for me and if you don't like, how can you not being a SB, go listen to your Nuts & Bolts! :-) "  Dave@Rush-Signals Productions

Comments:
"Another excellent audience recording from the Presto tour. All the band members sound very distinct and clear as the recording really captures a powerful performance. Many of nuances come through very well including the sound effects and the spatial distance of certain guitar solos by Alex. A very good atmosphere indeed. There is an abrupt transition between the drum solo and War Paint, but none of the music is missing. The band seems real laid back tonight, yet still as tight as ever. Another recommended recording". "This is a rare recording from the second last night of the Signals tour.
Indeed this is a rare show it took 24 years for it to come out and is a companion piece for Mad Cows and Scotsmen. As far as the sound is concerned, if the master was available that would be better but it's not. No matter enjoy. (The Old Dog - DRE)

Comment:
"To the gig and the recording. A decent sounding show with a very lively audience as you can tell from Geddy's requests for everyone to calm down to prevent crushing at the front. I can testify to the beldlam at the front since I was up against the barrier right in front of Lerxst at this gig Smiley. There are a couple of cuts, Xanadu and La Villa Strangiato are both truncated. (dreadmin - DRE)

Comment:
"Many people (and you can definitely include me) believe the "Signals" tour to be one of the finest set lists Rush has ever played, so it is very frustrating that the tour is so poorly documented. Especially when you consider that it is one of their longest tours. So it is great to add a bootleg to the very short list of decent Signals boots. Okay so how does this bootleg measure up? Very nicely . It is easily better than ?Signals  Quebec?. The sound is pretty damn good on this bootleg, and excellent for this tour! There is no talking!
Next to a few people you can here in the background yell out song titles as Rush begins to play that song. Even the people who are most sensitive to talkers will be very, very happy with the audience on this show.
If you are a casual collector you may want to consider this bootleg. If you are anything more than casual?THIS IS A MUST!" (DRE)

Comment:
"If my memory serves me correctly, this release is the 3rd Box Set in DR's Rush catalog. (The others are "Suite Signals" and "The Big Apple Box"). These recordings represent a large milestone in Rush's long career. With the huge success of Moving Pictures, Rush began playing in larger venues in comparison to the ones played during previous tours. In fact, Geddy has mentioned that Rush knew that "they made it" when they played the famous Madison Square Garden in New York during the MP tour.
Now on to my reviews....The best recording from these 3 nights is the 24th show. The sound is very reminiscent of the great Chicago and Anaheim recordings, but not as good. Over the years, my sound quality grading has somewhat become more strict and selective as I listen to more live recordings. My taste in sonic quality remains constant where I listen for good dynamics and pronunciations in the different instruments. It's difficult (and unfair) to judge a 1981 analogue recording to a 2002 DAT master recording made with Schoeps or other high end microphones. However, we must all find a working grading system to make sense of it all. I guess I'm still learning. The SQ grading I gave these recording is quite conservative and should only reflect my grading, and not yours. These recordings have that nice warmth to the music and are quite enjoyable at louder volumes. As a Rush fan that LOVES the 80's stuff, I am ecstatic to have these recordings in my collection. The 1st Gen tapes were obtained from a Led Zeppelin collector who generously lent the tapes to me for digital archiving. Hope everyone enjoys these recordings as much as I have. The radio bonus track is from CHUM FM's "Special of the Week" re-broadcasting the world premier of Moving Pictures, discussion with Geddy and Terry Brown and short discussion about the upcoming 3 nights at the MLG. Lastly, a huge thanks to the taper(s), where ever he or she may be."
