From her strong danseuse roots, she would have never imagined that she would end up doing films because being a dancer comes to her first. Her mother was a Kathak dancer who,was learning under Birju Maharaj while her dad was a Buddhist monk( Austarlian by birth)in Thailand. Her dad's desire to learn 'Dhrupad' made him stay back in India. They both met, fell in love and got married. After living in Delhi for a few years, Isha moved to Vrindavan. She was a ardent dancer who practiced dance for hours on end along side her mother. The duo has performed for several shows, and their popularity can be measured by the fact that people sell their free passes to see the duo's performance.
Though she had received many offers for films previously nothing was good enough to take her away from her dance.
"Kisna" happened by chance. She received an email from Mukta Arts saying that they were researching for a film called " Kisna" and that they had heard of her mother as a choreographer. They asked the duo to come to Mumbai. Enroute to the Pune Film festival they met Subhash Ghai, showed him their work and left. Three days later Subhash Ghai called her from London and asked her if she was interested in playing a role called " Laxmi" in "Kisna." And the rest as they say is history.
Isha finds classical dance very unfulfilling because she feels that the 'mudras' are artificial and a cheesy version of Bollwood. These days she is very attracted to Physical Theatre. She has made a concious effort to learn acting because she feels that dancers tend to forget that they have a face, while actors do not remember their body. According to her, there should be proper coordination between both faculties.
