Pradhana Vizha 2011 - Vasantham Central - Awards Season Cometh at Vasantham



Vettai and Vyjayanthi to duke it out with nine nominations each at Pradhana Vizha 2011. This year's Pradhana Vizha, the 12th annual event for recognising the finest talents in the Indian television industry, will see a number of significant changes that will make for an even more exciting event. While 15 awards were given out last year, this year will see a record number of 26 accolades awarded. After a four-year hiatus, awards in the Technical category, such as Best Opening Title and Best Videography, will stage a return.

Also, there will be not one but two Most Popular Artiste awards given out, for Vasantham's Most Popular Male and Female personalities: Viewers have nominated 20 artistes for this category. Going head-to-head will be the year's two most popular productions: Cop drama Vettai and period drama Vyjayanthi each received nine nominations, including Best Drama and Best Editing. Both have broken new ground in Vasantham's history, with Vettai being the first police-themed show, and Vyjayanthi the first show to be set in a period of local history.

For actor and musician Shabir (picture), there's much to be hopeful about this year: His name enjoys prominence in three categories. Besides a Best Actor nomination for his performance in Vettai, he's also up for Most Popular Male Artiste.
